Clarity is the whole point.
Clean books and real financial insight for growing businesses — so you understand your numbers, not just receive them.
Growing businesses that want to understand their numbers.
Averan is built for businesses past the startup stage — established enough that the numbers matter, but not yet large enough to justify a full-time finance team.
Past basic bookkeeping
You've outgrown a part-time bookkeeper or DIY software and need reliable, professional books.
Not ready for a full-time CFO
You need controller-level insight without a six-figure salaried hire on the payroll.
Planning your next move
Hiring, pricing, expanding, or eventually selling — and you want the numbers behind the decision.
Numbers first, opinions second.
We won’t hand you advice you can’t verify. We start by getting the books right, then show you what they mean — your margins, your cash, the few numbers that actually move the business. The goal is that you understand your own numbers well enough to make confident calls, not that you depend on us to interpret them.
Scott Engler, Founder
Averan is led by Scott Engler, who has spent his career helping growing businesses understand their numbers and build lasting value. He built Averan for the stage most finance help skips — where the books need to be right before anything built on top of them is worth having.
Before founding Sync, Scott spent 17+ years advising C-suite leaders at CEB and Gartner, where he led the firm's CFO and CHRO advisory practices and worked directly with over 2,000 middle-market CFOs. That is where the pattern behind Averan came from: the businesses that made good decisions were rarely the ones with the most sophisticated advice, they were the ones whose numbers could be trusted in the first place.
His background spans private-equity advisory, the mid-market, and hands-on business ownership, including companies he has helped grow and successfully sell. That perspective shapes how Averan works: get the books right first, then turn those numbers into the decisions that actually move a business — pricing, hiring, margins, and cash.
Scott's view is a simple one. Most owners don't need more financial jargon; they need numbers they can trust and someone who can tell them what those numbers mean. That belief runs through everything Averan does.
Averan is part of Sync Executive Partners, which also includes Sync CFO for CFO leadership and finance executive search.
